ART VIDÉO CONTEMPORAIN EN CHINE: UN PANORAMA

UNE PROPOSITION DE N-MINUTES VIDEO ART FESTIVAL AVEC ZHANG PEILI, CHEN SHAOXIONG, YANG ZHENZHONG, XU ZHE, SUN XUN, CHENG RAN, LIANG YUE, LI MING, JIANG ZHI.

Curatorial Statement

This selection includes nine contemporary Chinese Artists born between the 60s and the 2000s, including Zhang Peili, the father of experimental new media art in China; the late but influential Chen Shaoxiong; Yang Zhenzhong and his humorous interpretations; Sun Xun’s explorations of the world beyond ink, and the nimble poetic approach to reality of Jiang Zhi. The exhibition also features the creative, vitality of the constantly evolving Cheng Ran, the new works of female artist Liang Yue ("Feed, up to mountain"); the concise works of Xu Zhe which focus on the self; and the cutting-edge artist and recipient of the Hugo Boss Asian Art Award, Li Ming.

 

The works chosen were experimental, influential and representative of the artist’s practice. Amongst them Zhang Peili's “Happiness”, Chen Shaoxiong's “Ink Diary”, and Yang Zhenzhong's “Light as Fuck” are all renowned in China, but have yet to be shown in Switzerland. Young artists, Li Ming, Liang yue and Cheng Ran will bring new works, which together constitute a fragment of the development of the video art against the backdrop of Chinese culture; these works can serve as references for art organizations and observers of video art.
